Creating Spaces of Beauty and Function
Incorporating a trellis into a landscape, fence, pergola, or arbor design can add another element of beauty and function. Often a trellis framework is used to support flowers, vines or climbing plants – either as a panel attached to the side of a building or house, or as a freestanding structure in a yard or garden.
Trellis designs can be built from western red cedar, maintenance free vinyl/PVC fencing, and iron or aluminum. Trellises can be used horizontally to shade spaces or vertically to divide them. A trellis will allow sunlight to come through – but it doesn’t offer any protection from rain. Consider using a trellis to cover an unattractive wall, divide your yard or garden into separate areas, or as a way to form a less expensive semi-private wall for an entertaining space.
