Effects of Warm Weather on Fence Installation

Dakota Unlimited is a residential and commercial fence contracting business based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN.  We are a seasonally dependent business which thrives 6 months out of the year.  This year, however, has been a bit different as we are having what most Minnesotans would describe as a “mild” winter.  Typically we are rushing to finish all of our fence projects in November in a race against frost and snow, but this season has been entirely diverse. With the warmer temperatures, our sales staff continued to sell wood fence, chain link fence, and railings into November, keeping our installers busy well into December.

The winter months typically slow down office work as well as there are fewer phone calls and thus, less leads for the sales staff to run.  Again the warm weather has changed this pattern.  We have doubled our leads to this point from one year ago and phone quotes and general inquiries have substantially increased.  As a result, www.dakotaunlimited.com has kept on several employees from layoff, combating the additional workload.  If this weather pattern continues and we get an early thaw, we may begin installing fences in early to mid-March!
